My favourite statistics
While browsing through a social media platform which I'll not name here, I found this poster picture and it triggered off some thoughts about what "our" sport is all about.
I confess that I follow videos and reports on the Vendeé Globe, America's Cup and Classic yacht races and the respective statistics about times, speeds achieved, miles travelled and cost of the watercraft involved etc. But that's all about millionaires and their multimillion-dollar carbon-fibre sailing machines or brightwork-and-brass classics or reproductions of classic yachts.
We've no need to be envious. Our kind of sailing involves people of all ages and income classes and ranges from fierce competition to plain fun sailing and cruising. So this picture illustrates the statistics I like to see most.
Thanks go to Albury Wodonga Sailing Club for hosting the 2025 Australian Mirror Dinghy Championships and to the International Mirror Class Association of NSW for allowing us to use the picture. The event statistics listed speak for the kind of sailing fun I like best.

Meine Lieblingsstatistik
Beim Durchstöbern eines sozialen Netzwerks dessen Namen ich hier nicht verraten will, fand ich dieses Bild und es regte bei mir einige Überlegungen darüber an, worum es bei "unserem" Sport eigentlich geht.
Ich gestehe, dass ich mir Videos und Berichte über die Vendeé Globe, America's Cup sowie auch über Regatten der Klassikyachten anschaue und die betreffenden Statistiken mit Angaben über Zeiten, gesegelte Meilen, Kosten der jeweiligen Wasserfahrzeuge usw. lese. Aber all dies bezieht sich auf Millionäre mit ihren für viele Millionen Dollar gekauften kohlefaserverstärten Segelmaschinen oder auf strahlend lackierte und mit viel Bronze und Messing geschmückte Klassiker oder Klassikernachbauten.
Wir haben aber keinen Grund, neidisch zu sein. Unsere Ausprägung des Segelsports ist offen für alle Alters- und Einkommensklassen und reicht vom harten Wettbewerb bis hin zum einfachen Spaßsegeln und Wanderfahrten. Also zeigt das Bild hier die Statistiken, die ich am besten mag.
Dank geht an dem Albury Wodonga Sailing Club als Gastgeber/Veranstalter der australischen Mirror-Meisterschaftsregatten 2025 und an die International Mirror Class Association of NSW, die die Verewendung des Bildes genehmigt haben. Die im Bild aufgeführten Daten beschreiben den Segelspaß, der mir persönlich am besten gefällt.
