Wooden Mirror Kit / Varnish / Filler included

Forums:

I have a wooden Mirror Dinghy kit, that was left by the previous owners of my house. It is in good condition - a little dusty and a few spiders, some cosmetic water marks.

I have been meaning to build it myself, but not actually a sailor... and now with a small child the any free time I had has disappeared. I also no longer have anywhere to store the kit, hence the need to move it on.

I have no idea what it would be worth - it seems like new kits cost a lot. So this would be a bargin at £150?

It comes with:
Full kit
Filler and varnish kit
Sail

The box is no longer with the kit.

Collection from PO4 (Southsea / Portsmouth) address.

I hope it can go to a good home, it would be great shame to take it to the dump.

I'm sure you'll find a taker.
I have taken the liberty of linking this thread to the Wooden Boat Forum. Unfortunately you're a bit too far from Berlin, or I might be tempted (you are asking less than what a new mainsail would cost me).
Can you tell us the boat number (should be marked on the inside of the transom and on the mainsail)?
This would give us a clue as to the age of the kit.

Hey Jody, I saw this via Gernot's thread on Wooden Boat. I have been looking for a project to start, what the hell, I'll have a go, is it complete? Do you know how old it is? It's going to cost me a tank of fuel to get down to you, will you accept £120 for it?

All the best,
Chris

It is at least 7 years old, but I suspect more like 15+ years old. I'm pretty sure it is complete.

I'll see if I can find the model number Gernot refers to - But I don't know my fore from my aft!

£150 sounds like a bargin from the sound of things...

Jody

I'm useless at this bargaining thing. Ok Jody, would you accept £150 for it? :)

I can come and grab it this weekend if it suits?

All the best,

Chris

Hello Jody,
your kit has found a taker even more quickly than I expected.
The transom is the bit at the bottom right in your picture. It has two oval holes (hand-holes/drain holes) at deck level. It normaly comprises a thin plywood part and, at the top, a thicker piece of hardwood (mahogany or similar). On my boat, the number is embossed on that thicker piece (inside the left-hand side).
Cheers,
Gernot

Hi Chris,

Yes this weekend sounds fine. My email is (no spaces) jody willis AT gmail DOT com.

We can arrange details for time / address.

As I have said it has no box, and the longest parts are about 2.5m.

Thanks a lot and enjoy the project.

Jody

Hey Jody,

You should have an E-Mail! Any trouble I'm christopherDOTbass also with Google Mail.

Cheers,

Chris

yes, I wish the former owner of our house had left a Mirror kit. He only left the garage so full of junk that I had nowhere to put my junk until I'd done several trips to the disposal yard.
@Christopher (seaBass) : any news of the construction project ?

Cheers,
Gernot H.
