New Guy

Already messing up! I put my introduction post on the wrong spot! Anyway, boatless admirer of the Mirror.

Perhaps after being on this forum for while you will find it impossible to no purchase a Mirror Dinghy. They are a great little boat.

I am the proud owner of a Mirror built by my father over the winter around 1968 I think. He spent many a cold evening laying out the panels and stitching the works together. Had a small pot belly stove which he took great delight in firing up, probaby to escape the 7 of us kids while he toiled away on the boat. Built 2 actually and my brother and I have them. We sail every summer, never done any serious ragatta but have I have taught my son to sail. You can find the boats on the forum and the Ontario Mirror group has a site www.mirrorsailing.ca with lots of good info. Seems they have an active group in the Toronto area. Hope you find one, Ian

Hello Mitch,
Welcome a-online ...
although we are mostly Mirror owners and Mirroristi, the forum is open to anyone who wishes to read and contribute boating-related thoughts. We only object to junk postings that try to sell us face creams, healthcare product or the services of oddball organizations.
It has struck me that quite a few of the US Mirrors that have appeared on the WWW from time to time in pictures or texts on the US Mirror site (now offline) and elsewhere had Ohio registrations. At least one of our participants is in Ohio. If you open the Roll Call PDF and search for "Ohio" you'll find one or two. Actually number 44875 was for sale in your state in 2007 - I have not heard who the new owner is or where the boat has gone.
However - a note of caution - check whether a Mirror would fit your needs and intentions carefully. Cliff and others who camp-cruise in dinghies can probably help you make the decision. If you intend to build one, consider the cost of a kit (from Canada, the UK or AUS/NZ ?) or the difficulty of cloning the design.
A few of us hang out on the Wooden Boat Forum - assumedly mainly people with WOODEN Mirrors.

Cheers,
Gernot H.

Well, I can order a mirror kit from Mirror Sailing Development in ONtario Canada, for about US$3100, + Shipping. That might actually be a doable thing, in a few months.

If you need any help re getting a kit, I know Lorne Bellamy quite well and will assist in any way I can.
