Mirror in Kabul, Afghanistan

I just came from looking at a Mirror hull (40391) that was apparently brought to Kabul about 20 years ago and sailed on Kargha Lake just outside Kabul. All that's there is the hull, no mast, sails or rigging, but, at first glance, it looks in pretty good shape. I'm going to need a lot of help once the snow leaves if I'm going to get this baby sailing again. I'll be back with more details, but I thought folks would be interested in knowing there's a Mirror in Kabul.

Anything that promotes peaceful activities in the world is welcome news!

I've got to look up that lake on Google Maps. One always gets the impression that Afghanistan is such a dry arid country ;-{).

I've heard of that lake/reservoir before but never tried to look for photos of it until now. This one gives an idea of the surroundings: http://500px.com/photo/23717681 . I'd be interested to know if there are other people sailing there or if you will stand out as an exotic exception. How do the Taleban feel about sailing? I imagine that you'll need to be careful to give the boat a name that's politically neutral and which they would be unable to disapprove of - it could prevent you from being targeted yourself even if they take a dislike to people galliavanting in pleasure boats.

I see there's a great place near Bamiyan just asking for a Mirror to be sailed on it too: http://www.amusingplanet.com/2012/04/deep-blue-lakes-of-band-e-amir.html - that would be a good place to set up a local fleet of them some day, if only peace could be established. Just imagine the red sails on those waters...
