hello from ireland

hello all, new member here from cork in ireland.
doing up an old mirror , not a great sailor but looking forward to learning and improving.
i have used a pic of my cabin on the river blackwater just above the estuary at youghal.
this is a great place to chill out and do some peacefull boating.
i will need all the help i can get and i will have lots of questions im sure !

kind regards to all .... richie

That looks like a piece of water that needs a Mirror on it. Hope you can get out there soon, though I expect you're thinking about next year rather than rushing things.

thanks dave, well actually i have a few mirrors. i bought an old one without a trailer, so then i bought another one with a combi trailer or should i say it was gifted to me for a nominal fee by someone who wanted to see it used. then someone else heard i was interested in mirrors and i ended up with another one even though there is a hole in it . thats the one i am sailing now , i stuck layers of alligator tape over the hole and i have been out 4 times now and am going in the morning again. i must say that alligator tape is amazing stuff, very handy to have around.
i will sail through the winter in light airs, i am an experienced boatman but not an experienced sailor.
right now i am just getting used to the size and lightness of the mirror. as i will be single handed most of the time, im really enjoying learning in the fine weather, the forecast is for good weather all this week so i should get out a few days.
yes the cabin in the river is a really cool place but tomorrow i want to sail down under the bridge and into the harbour, its constant work in the river as the tacks are short and i have pains where i never new i had muscles. i can have a more relaxed sail in the harbour but its more open and i have to be carefull , im only finding my space in the boat as yet . tommorow i will try the mainsheet forward on the boom and to a block on the keel box. ill see if this is more comfortable for me as i say its all a learning curve for me and always will be , but one that i love and really enjoy.
i would like to attach some more pics of the river for you but i dont know how ! perhaps you can advise me on this ? thanks .....

Huckelberry, your location caught my eye and is very interesting from a personal angle.

I'm pleased to hear that members may be teaming up and/or meeting through the forum.
Having had to pay for my boat (albeit many many moons ago), I'm a bit envious at how little one has to invest in the UK and Ireland.
Let us know more soon!

hi and thanks for the welcome !
yes its great that there is a place like this to share info and get useful advise from experienced mirror sailors. indeed i have been very lucky in getting the boats i have, this allows me to do them up and sell them on at a reasonable price. i'm happy to just cover my costs and hopefully get someone else into mirror sailing and its nice to give an old boat a new lease of life. the previous owners are thrilled to see pics of the newly refurbished boat being sailed again.
i can post some pics on here if i knew how to ? can you advise please ?

We are not open to receiving lots of pictures to be stored here (I have to pay for the host service) but I am thinking of a gallery of members' boats (one or two pictures per member) and would be prepared to store these and publish them for those of us who do not subscribe to FaceBook, Picasa or other system and who do not have their own sites. These folks would have to send me the pictures as e-mail attachments (preferably reduced to about 1400 by 1000 pixels which is quite big on most screens).
All others who do have pictures elsewhere are able to post them here by using a bit of html code (sorry about that): the <img src=" ..." ....> tag as described in the thread about posting pictures.

Hi there, I'm from Waterford with a new Mirror Dinghy, looking to meet up with others with a Mirror dinghy

Thanks!

I am sure you will have a great time sailing your Mirror as all others do. If you have any questions this is a good place to ask them. This is also a great place to share your experiences with your new Mirror.
