G'day all
Just joined forum after learning of you from dinghy cruising websites. I have Mirror 15787 here in NW Victoria Australia. Boat name is waterloo & I purchased her about 4 years ago. I put her in the lake here to see what was what & she leaked like a sieve due to damage from being stored on an unsuitable boat trailer. We rebuilt her over that winter fixing all the cracks & removing the 7 or so layers of different coloured paint. Taking her back to bare wood we found that here original name was Kathleen. We redid all external seams & rebuilt the daggerboard case before epoxy coating & repainting.

Your experience with the daggerboard case reflects one of the major problems with wooden Mirrors. I'm glad to read that you have successfully solved the problems and hope that you're enjoying the boat.
There is only a singe 15k sail number boat on the Roll call. Would you like your boat to be included. It might be exciting for some of the former owners to hear what became of her, particularly as you've found the original name!

Thanks all, Yes Gernot, you are welcome to put 'Waterloo' into your roll call. We are located at Lake Charm, Victoria. There is a sailing club on the lake but they have Hobies.
I have a reasonable knowledge on Mirrors, I learnt to sail by racing in 1 in the UK in the 1970's And was involved with building 2 others. I have sailed all sorts of dinghies from beachcombers & OK's to cadets & dolphins. I also have a Cherub here but I have come back to Mirrors for there easy sailing & cruising & of course an excellent boat to teach the kids in. And we can just row about the lake if we feel like it.

Hmm, I agree with the alternative above, but should one drink and sail? But then if your Mirror is tied up to a dock, or on the shore or well anchored, what better way is there to enjoy your dinghy than with a drink on the rocks, especially if it is really warm out.

I have some info on other boats which are not in the Roll call also. But they are not my boats so not sure if there are privacy issues in this overly private world we live in. As well as the original sails I have a second set of sails from boat number 55526 which I was told no longer exists. Either way it was in Melbourne area Victoria. I also looked at a second hand kite from mirror 12958 on ebay UK which the seller said the boat it belonged to no longer exists. Also mirror 2361 Sold on ebay Aus in Aug this year from Safety Beach Vic. There are other mirrors around here to but I do not know numbers or history. And the 3 boats I was involved with in the UK are probably not on the list but I can only remember the boat names not the numbers.
By the way you can drink while sailing a boat provided the sun is over the yard arm. We used to lower the yard arm!

I had a friend who used to say the sun was over the yard arm some place so he felt free to drink at any time, but I never saw him drink while in his Mirror.

I wonder
The hole in the bow of "McB" was the result of my father and the owner running it up on rocks.My mother used to tell the yarn and thought it hilarious,so did we as kids
The owner,the guy I got it from,tells the yarn of how they became becalmed in the middle of the bay so proceeded to drink beer until the wind got up again,I wonder where the oars were,more importantly,I wonder how they kept the beer cold.
