Adding 6309

Hi,
I've just done major work on Aunty Sue, sailed mostly on the Helford river and Carrick Roads.
Sadly, much of this mirror's transom and gunwhales rotted and have been replaced with fibre glass, then gel coated with Oxford Blue dye and wax additive (as I have no carpentry skills). But at least this has to be better than putting on the bonfire/chopping into garden furniture etc suggested to me by usual land-lubbers.
I'm toying with whether or not to install spinnaker chute into foredeck? I probably will use it, having picked it up cheap second hand in a garage sale. I would like to replace all cleats but need to know best prices?
I still have original sails to go with the hull (now a hybrid of wood and fibre glass). I need to carve number into the now thicker ply transom capable of carrying Seagull engine when hitting doldrums. I wish to obtain a launching trolly to save road trailer from corrosion,so hopefully won't spend more then £50 on a second hand one. I've ordered Ronseal value yacht varnish at £9/ litre at Screwfix, and a £40 dinghy towing cover at eBay. Once the cleats are replaced and perhaps a brass protective strip at the lowest points under the hull she'll be ready to sail for the first time in 9 years!

I'm always glad to hear of a boat being saved.
Your repair sounds adventurous. Do you think she'll stand up to the strain of a spi? Of course that depends on the weather in which she'll be wearing the spinnaker.
I hope someone here can help. I'm still puzzling over how to rig my spinnaker, never having sailed one in my life yet.
Cheers,
Gernot H.

I would look first at the newer kind of spinnaker chute where the end is much more open than the old style. I've never used the new type, but used the old style of chute a lot, starting with a narrower one which jammed frequently and then switching to a wider one which still jammed occasionally - when it jams it's not only inconvenient (it caused an unfortunate incident between us and a Nacra 5.2 which was expecting us to round a mark that we could no longer see - we cost them a race win), but potentially dangerous too, and particularly when sailing alone. The new arrangement probably does less damage to the sail too, but you need to ask around and see what others think of it before you make any decision.

14466 will be out and about on carrick roads soon, will keep an eye out for you. :-)
