Mirror number 70863

Hello!
I am about to finish Mirror number 70863. I could go on and on about the experience of building it, but for now I just have some (possibly stupid) questions. I hope someone with a Bermudan rigged (two part mast) Mirror can help.

1) The forestay included in the kit has two eyes at one end. Why?

2) In the standard rigging kit there seems to be no way of tensioning the shrouds or forestay. Am I right? (Or do the aformentioned two eyes have to do with this?) I find it hard to imagine that the shrouds will fit with such precision to keep the mast in place - I'll find out when I finish painting the hull next week and flip her over to rig her up ;-))

3) Should the centreborad retaining elastic be attached to the top of the thwart or to the underside? The instructions are unclear about this (as in many things).

I hope someone can answer these questions, or even better, send me pictures! I find the instructions to be badly wanting as far as rigging the boat is concerned, and there are no Mirrors here to inspect and compare.

"Here". by the way, is in Bavaria, where I will potter about on the Chiemsee. Another German Mirror!

I am sure Gernot, from Berlin, will be able to help you.
The bungie cord that holds down my dagger board is fastened under the thwart. As far as adjusting the tension of the shrouds, I built a connector with a bunch of holes oriented perpendicular to the gunnel and is attached just below the gunnels. That way I am able to adjust the shroud tension by selecting a appropriate hole. My forestay is attached to the bow with a strong line which allows me to make the forward pull on the mast a tight as required.

Perhaps at some point you and Gernot will be able to meet to compare your Mirrors.

I hope that we can arrange a German Mirror meet, even if we never establish a regatta community!
As far as a Bermuda rig is concerned, I cannot be of assistance, as I own a gunter rig ("Steilgaffel"). I suspect that the second eye in the forestay is there to allow you to sail with the mast in the forward position withou a jib ("cat-rigged").
I have done away with the fastening of the centreboard bungee cord and simply knot a length of bungee under the thwart and around the back of the CB case.
