Proud new owner of #1894

Forums:

Hello all,

I collected my new (old) Mirror over the weekend. Sail/hull number: 1894

I’m lucky enough to be her second owner and have all the history having purchased from the builder’s daughter. I have a folder with a meticulously ticked off parts list, sailing instructors, and the official sign-off card. She’s in remarkably good condition and has been living under cover in a dry garage for a few decades. Sails are by Jeckells and in great order. She has been repainted at some point but I have a photo of the original cream colour for reference. Apart from the paint, all else appears to to be original.

The family tells me she was much loved and spent many summer holidays in the south of France teaching the children to sail. Seems she’s only had light use in her almost 60 years.

I’m a new member of this forum as well as the Mirror being my first sailing dinghy. All questions and advise are welcome.

That is fabulous!
I hope that you soon get familiar with handling a dinghy (do you have experience sailing any other boats?) and enjoy the sport!
Cheers,
Gernot H.

Thank you!
I have 0 sailing experience but liveaboard a Dutch motor yacht, surprisingly enough on a tidal creek of the Thames. It’s ideal for getting to know my Mirror but I haven’t had chance to take her out as yet. I’m hopeful someone on this site (who’s local) can spend a few hours to help me with the basics and get me on the water. Any suggestions gratefully received.
