Australia : Mirror Class Association of Victoria AGM on 15 Feb. 2024

This wass announced on Facebook by Alex Morton on the 30th of January 2024

Mirror Sailing Victoria

Calling all Mirror sailors in Victoria! Mirror Class Association of Victoria AGM will take place on Thursday 15th February at 6.30pm on Zoom.
We're looking for new committee members (both racing and cruising) as we seek to re-invigorate the Association - minimal commitment beyond a couple of committee meetings and helping organise a couple of events. Get in touch if you're interested (or if you want to renew your membership and get a say).

I could not find a web site of the Mirror Class Association of Victoria so I assume that Facebook is the only contact channel at present

Small commitment, small changes, towards a bigger picture
The Mirror can still have a bright future as a class in Victoria and in Australia more generally. As we all know, they are an affordable entry point to sailing, with their flexibility making them an excellent boat for cruising and racing for sailors of all ages and skill levels.
To continue and to re-vitalise the class, we need a strong and active Mirror Class Association which brings together the large number of Mirrors still being sailed across the state.
We cannot achieve this over-night but we can start small and strong.
Andy and Jaemie have both stated their wish to step down from their long-held positions on the committee, and we are very grateful for their contributions, especially keeping things afloat during the tough times of COVID.
I am willing to stand as President, but I would like at least 2 other people to form a committee with me.
My vision would be to do things that are sustainable and achievable in the first year:
- 2-3 committee meetings (on-line or in-person)
- run a State Championships with at least 10 boats in 2025
- run one other event - either a coaching event or a family day and cruise (if we go wild and managed both then that’s fab!)
- publish 3-6 newsletters
- re-establish a MCAV website
Small commitment, small changes, towards a bigger picture.
If you are interested in getting involved on the committee please let Andy MacIntyre know and turn up for the AGM!
