Superspars bermudan mast

We have just bought a secondhand GRP Trident Mirror from about 2004. She is fitted with Superspars mast and boom. We have a question concerning the masthead fitting. At the top of this casting we can see the stopper knot from a length of 5mm shock cord, the other end of which appears to terminate somewhere inside the mast. Does anyone know the purpose of this shock cord? Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
My guess is that this shock cord is for the spinnaker pole, but maybe one of the regatta sailors in our group can provide more definite info.
