Reading matter for Mirrormaniacs

Not too long ago, Dave Craig, a "rising contributor" to the Facebook mirrorist groups, asked about the Mirrormania book, as he had been unable to find a copy. I suggested searching on archive.org, but no one was able to find it there. I have a copy of the book, but was uneasy about whether scanning and sharing it was all legal from the copyrights aspect. In the meantime, mirrorist Andrew Morse had provided a copy to Dave who then cleared the copyrights question with the Class Association executives led by Martin Egan. I had not even started scanning the book when Dave wrote to the Facebook group that he had turned the book into a PDF and uploaded it to archive.org.
The fundamental technical information is still useful, particularly to newcomers, even though the class has developed since the book's publication. For authoritative data, one should refer to the class rules and measurement forms available at sailing.org.
However for shoreside reading in the shade of a palm tree when there's no wind or in a cosy armchair when the lakes are frozen, the book provides enjoyable accounts of outings and cruises. Some of these may serve as food for thought and perhaps as warnings -- one never stops learning.

Lesestoff für Hardcore-Mirroristen
Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit fragte Dave Craig, „rising contributor” in der Facebook-Gruppe "People who love Mirror Sailing Dinghies", nach dem Buch "Mirrormania", da er kein Exemplar finden konnte. Ich schlug vor, auf archive.org zu suchen, aber dort konnte es niemand finden. Ich besitze zwar ein Exemplar des Buches, war mir aber unsicher, ob das Scannen und Weitergeben aus urheberrechtlicher Sicht legal sei. In der Zwischenzeit hatte Mirrorist Andrew Morse Dave ein Exemplar zur Verfügung gestellt, der daraufhin die Urheberrechtsfrage mit dem Vorstand der internationalen Klassenvereinigung unter der Leitung von Martin Egan geklärt hatte. Ich hatte noch nicht einmal mit dem Scannen des Buches begonnen, als Dave der Facebook-Gruppe schrieb, dass er das Buch schon in eine PDF-Datei umgewandelt und auf archive.org hochgeladen hatte.
Die grundlegenden technischen Informationen im Buch sind nach wie vor nützlich, insbesondere für Neulinge, auch wenn sich die Klasse seit der Veröffentlichung des Buches weiterentwickelt hat. Für verbindliche Daten sollte man sich jedoch auf die Klassenregeln und Messformulare beziehen, die unter sailing.org verfügbar sind.
Als Lektüre an Land im Schatten einer Palme wenn kein Wind weht, oder in einem gemütlichen Sessel wenn die Seen zugefroren sind, bietet das Buch jedoch unterhaltsame Berichte über Ausflüge und Wanderfahrten. Einige davon können als Denkanstöße und vielleicht auch als Warnungen dienen – man lernt ja nie aus.
