Mirror Cruise Logs

Hi There
Years ago I used to have a little booklet that had some Ontario Mirror Dinghy cruising logs in it. I believe one of the logs was titled "Cruise to the Bustards" (a group of islands in Georgian Bay). I think there was 3 or 4 cruise logs in the one booklet and there were 3 or 4 Mirrors involved in each of the cruises. Does anyone have a copy of these? Could it be scanned and put in the documents section if so? I haven't seen mine in about 20 years and thought it would be fun to re-read them.

I do not have the information you want. However, I copied your message, above, and sent it to one of the OMDA members who went on these cruises and I am hoping he will provide the information here. If he does not, but sends it to me I will post it here.

Thanks Pete! We have a group "The Can-Am Dinghy Cruising Association" -dedicated to Dinghy Cruising - that is planning some cruises this summer in Ontario. One of the suggestions is to set up a cruise in Georgian Bay up around Parry Sound. This is what got me to thinking about those cruising logs.

Finally got round to joining this forum after restoring my Mirror last year. So far I've done a few solo and family cruises. Here's a Youtube video of a recent cruise where I lived aboard for 4 days.

Looks great Kevin - always interesting to see different cruising grounds too. Reminds me a lot of Canada....

I've seen some of your Videos and am impressed by your efforts. Folks "down under" seem to see more value in vintage Mirrors, as Duncan Gibbs' thread about the "Mighty Pippin" on the Wooden Boat forum illustrates.
Now the obligatory questions: would you like your boat and name to be on the Mirror dinghy roll call ? And if so, has she got a name and what is it?
Cheers,

Gernot H.

I have recently been given a copy of "Mirror Mania" (thanks to Hanns/"ell-tea"). Didn't know it contained more than just technical information. It does!
If you can get hold of a copy, it's worth it just for the cruise and camping stories. The accounts are not too long, often amusing and make ideal bedtime reading.
There is a discussion on the UK mirrors forum about getting a reprint. Perhaps we should join the discussion and try to find a solution. I assume that the book could be updated and added to in the process.
Cheers,
Gernot

Ive been looking for a copy of Mirror Mania. If its out of copyright perhaps
Someone can make a digital copy for the forum Gernot?

Hi Gernot
I think it would be great to start a digital archive of some of these cruises, stories etc. As many of the boats are approaching 40 or 50 years old it would be good to document as much of the history of the class/individual boats as possible. I think your Roll Call is an excellent starting point by the way.

@ all readers
Remember we have the "Documents" and "Links" pages.
While I have not (for data security reasons) given forum users permission to post on these pages, you are all free to send me files or URLs by e-mail if you would like them to be added there.
BTW if anyone has a copy of the html files of the "Minnie Moltok" story (cruise around the Island of Mon, Denmark), I'd love to have them if I can clear the copyright issues. It used to be up on the New Zealand wooden boats site but has since disappeared.
I've written to Martin Egan to ask about the "Mirror mania" project.
Another future project would be a "members' boats" picture album, but as Pete and I are ham forum operators, we shall probably have to resort to very basic html functions to implement this.
