Mirror Sailing Development- (Canada) .

I have to sadly report that Mirror Sailing Development- Canada has ceased operation. It is no longer possible to purchase Mirror Dinghy kits from them

This is sad news indeed.
I wonder whether the fees for the licence to make kits and obtain plans are still needed to maintain the class association.
Perhaps the dwindling number of suppliers is a good argument in favour of liberating the plans (to be sold for a reasonable fee, of course) to amateur boatbuilders.
The class rules are so clear that it would definitely be possible to measure privately built boats for regattas and anyone wishing to have a hull number officially recognised by the class association could be charged a fee for this when purchasing the plans.

Pete,
Or anyone who can answer this. It does seem that MSD was also the operator of the Canadian Mirror Association, at least that is what I can work out from the International Site. Does this mean that there is now no official association in Canada? I do know that the US one folded some years ago. There are a lot of Mirrors in CDN and the USA, especially around the Great Lakes. I as wondering if there are any clubs that still have fleets of Mirrors sailing? There was some communication about West Virginia a while back. I guess there wont be any USA or CDN boats represented in AUS this year.
It does sadden me to think that the Mirror is dying in North America, and not getting the restart (through the GRP Mirrors) that is being experienced elsewhere.

Bill,
I do not know the answer re Canadian Mirror Association. My guess is that since the Ontario Mirror Dinghy Association (OMDA) is still alive, in principle so is the CMA. Although the CMA was never, in my experience, an organization except in name only. I am sorry to report that OMDA is a much smaller organization than it was when I first joined in 1984.
I agree with you completely that it is a shame that Mirrors in North America still seem to be a dying breed. The GPR Mirror have not taken hold here. In fact I've only seen one and it was not in OMDA for a very long time.

I answered your question the first time you asked it. If you scroll up you should see the answer.
