Roll Call Addition

Forums:

Hello,
Here is another older Mirror still in decent condition.
Sail number #14309, built by retired aeronautical engineer in Ontario, Canada. Very little used then sold to Mrs Cathy Baier from Wiarton, Ontario in 1997.
In 2013 Cathy sold it to me and I moved the boat to Montreal, Quebec. In September 2020 I shipped the boat to Croatia, Europe where DOLPHIN now waits for some extensive work to be done during this year.
I have no plans changing the name.

It's always good to hear that one more boat has survived the ravages of time.
I'm also pleased to hear that someone actually loves their boat so much that they ship it across the Atlantic, rather than selling on one side and then buying another at the destination.
If you are in Croatia, you have a wonderful coastline and waters to sail on. You may bump into Bram D'Hont, an artist and free thinker who lives in Slovenia and sails his Mirror dinghies (he reports having two) on the Adriatic coast.
I hope your "extensive work" is successful and rewards you with more enjoyable sailing hours than you spend on the "work".
Is it OK to put you full name on the roll call or shall I write "forum member CaptainZ"?
Cheers,
Gernot H.

Gernot,
it is ok to put my name there.
yes I am right now in Croatia and looking forward doing some good sailing with my Mirror. I do not know Bram -- I will look him up.
Are there any Mirror owner gatherings in central Europe - Germany, Austria ?? Maybe we could try to organize something once this virus disaster is over.... maybe on Balaton, or lake Constance (Bodensee) or on Adriatic coast ? I think that would be fairly interesting....
Cheers
Zoran

There are no strictly "Mirror" meets in mainland Europe. Several Mirror owners in France participate in small boat festivals, such as the "Semaine du Golfe" regularly, however. There are quite a lot of small boat meetings in France, it seems. Enrico Franconi, who sails a Goat Island Skiff, has made a video about one of them (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6E4qf_uWjyc) and it really made me envious and think about participating in something like that.
I managed to get two other German Mirror owners to come to the "JollenFlottille" in 2018 on the Schlei, see https://mirrordiscussforum.org/Drupal_02/comment/1754#comment-1754 , and hope that we can organise a few more before I get too old :-{) .
Lake Constance is not a good sailing venue. There is usually too little or no wind or a violent storm. Lake Garda is much better, and we did consider it as a possible JollenFlottille venue at one point.
Of course the Adriatic offers many options too.
